100% Gold Standard
Compensating for carbon dioxide emissions can be done in numerous ways, differing in method and justification. We have aggregated several different approaches in an optimal blend: the OCO2MIX. Hereby we are able to make a maximum impact towards our ultimate goal: stopping global warming.
The OCO2MIX consists for 100% of investments in premium carbon credits certified by the Gold Standard Foundation, founded by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
Investing in CO2-reducing energy projects
is the ideal way of reducing CO2 emission levels directly. We guarantee that the CO2 emissions caused by our clients are fully compensated by investing in clean energy projects that replace the need for burning fossil fuels. A tangible example would be the investment in a solar power plant. The power plant emits far lower levels of carbon dioxide for producing a given amount of energy, compared to a coal fired power plant. Therefore, the solar power plant generates so-called carbon credits.
Because OCO2 buys those credits, the plant receives additional income and thus can operate at economically viable levels. Without OCO2 buying those credits, the solar power plant would be forced to operate at a permanent loss as solar power is in essence more expensive compared to coal. OCO2 only buys carbon credits from clean energy projects certified by the Gold Standard Foundation, complying with regulations set by, amongst others, the World Wide Fund for Nature .
(WWF).
All investments in carbon credits are handled by the OCO2 Foundation. Hereby we are able to ensure full transparency and maintain our non-profit policy on the buying and selling of premium carbon credits. Therefore, we guarantee that all of the moneys received for CO2 compensation purposes are directly invested, no strings attached. Read more about the OCO2 Foundation...

OCO2 does not plant trees in order to compensate for CO2 emissions. However trees do absorb carbon dioxide in their growth phase, these same levels are again released by the time the trees are renewed. What's more, numerous examples are available demonstrating unethical tree planting practices (putting local farmers out of business, planting trees only after cutting them down first).
